Litejam's Guess The Scale Challenge - Guitar Summit 2026

One of the things we love most about traveling around the world with Litejam is discovering the experiences that bring guitarists together in ways we never expected. Over the past guitar shows, our Scale Challenge has become one of those experiences. What started as a fun activity at the events has gradually turned into something people actively look forward to, with musicians approaching our booth asking if they can take part and test their skills. So, when it was time to return to Germany for Guitar Summit 2026 in Mannheim, one of Europe's biggest events, we knew there was no way we could leave without bringing the challenge back for another round.

This time, however, we wanted to make things even more interesting. In previous editions, we often illuminated the entire fretboard with a scale and asked participants to identify it just by looking at the pattern. But as more guitarists began taking on the challenge, we realized there was an opportunity to push things further. For this year's Guess The Scale Challenge, we decided to change the way the LEDs displayed each scale, creating different levels of difficulty and forcing players to approach the fretboard from completely different perspectives. Sometimes the entire neck was illuminated, giving participants a broad view of the pattern. Other times, we restricted the lights to just one section of the fretboard, or even as little as two strings, making it much harder to recognize the scale at first glance.

And that's where the real challenge begins. Most guitarists are used to learning scales through repetition, muscle memory and playing patterns across the neck. When you take away the ability to play and ask someone to identify a scale using only the illuminated LEDs, everything changes. Participants have to visualize intervals, locate the root note and mentally reconstruct the pattern without relying on their usual hand movements. By changing the illuminated areas throughout the challenge, we made sure that even players who felt confident at first had to stop, concentrate and really think about what they were seeing. It's amazing how something that looks so simple can become such a difficult puzzle when you can't pick up the guitar and play it.

These two guitarists who were more than happy to jump straight into the challenge. As you'll see in the video, both were ready to give it a try, but identifying scales from visual patterns alone is a very different experience from recognizing them while playing. The changing LED configurations added another layer of difficulty, requiring them to adapt their approach each time. These are exactly the kinds of reactions we love capturing: the concentration, the moments of hesitation, the unexpected answers and, above all, the fun of sharing a challenge with other musicians. You don't need to be a professional guitarist to participate, and you certainly don't need to get every answer right. The whole point is to discover something new about the fretboard while enjoying the experience together.

What makes this challenge especially meaningful to us is that it has grown because of you. At guitar shows around the world, people have watched our videos, seen others participate and then approached us to ask if they could try it themselves. That's how we realized the Scale Challenge had become more than just a one-off activity. It's now a small Litejam tradition, and bringing it back to Mannheim felt like the most natural thing in the world. Guitar Summit gave us another opportunity to meet players from different backgrounds, share a few laughs and demonstrate how an illuminated fretboard can turn a traditional guitar-learning concept into something interactive and social. We want Litejam to be more than an instrument people see in a video; we want it to be something they can experience, explore and enjoy firsthand.

Guitar Summit 2026 was also a particularly exciting event for another reason: we brought a new Litejam guitar model to Germany for the first time. Alongside the new Litejam Neo Series—including the Neo Acoustic A1, Neo S and Neo T—we're continuing to expand our range and introduce more guitarists to what Litejam can offer. Each event gives us a chance to learn from the community, hear what musicians want from their instruments and discover new ways to make practicing and playing more engaging. From our original electric guitars to the new Neo models, our goal remains the same: helping guitarists visualize music, understand the fretboard and build their skills in a way that feels natural and motivating.

As Litejam continues to grow, experiences like the Guess The Scale Challenge remind us why we started this journey in the first place. We want to inspire people to pick up a guitar, explore music and keep improving, whether they're complete beginners or experienced players looking for a fresh perspective. Every country we visit introduces us to new musicians, new ideas and new memories, and we can't wait to see where the next challenge takes us. If you see us at an upcoming guitar show, come by, say hello and give the challenge a try. You might discover that you know more about scales than you think—or find a new reason to start learning them.

From the Neo Acoustic A1 to the upgraded Neo S and Neo T, we're continuing to develop new ways to make learning, practicing and playing more intuitive. If you'd like to be part of this next chapter, visit our Kickstarter and join us on the next step of our journey.

Thank you to everyone who visited us at Guitar Summit, joined the challenge, or continues supporting Litejam around the world. We can't wait to bring more guitars, more challenges and more unforgettable moments to the next event. 🎸
