Litejam Meets Herman Li from Dragonforce: A Full-Circle Guitar Moment
At Litejam, we’re constantly reminded that the best part of building a music-learning tool isn’t just the technology — it’s the incredible people we get to meet along the way. Few encounters have felt as surreal and full-circle as the one we had at NAMM this year with guitar legend Herman Li of DragonForce.
We’ve been huge fans of Herman for years. Growing up, his lightning-fast solos and the sheer energy of DragonForce tracks like “Through the Fire and Flames” were the soundtrack to countless bedroom practice sessions. That song, in particular, became legendary not just for its blistering speed but for its iconic appearance in Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock — the track that broke controllers, tested patience, and turned millions of players into instant fans of power metal. Over the years, we’ve lost count of how many people have jokingly asked us: “Is Litejam like Guitar Hero?”
So when we finally met Herman at NAMM, we couldn’t resist sharing our passion for guitars, innovation in music education, and yes… that very connection.
What made the moment even more special was handing him a Litejam to take home. Fast-forward a short while, and there he was — the man behind some of the most insane guitar solos in modern metal — going live with a Litejam in his hands. We’re thrilled to share a short clip from that stream (attached below). Watching him explore the glowing fretboard, experiment with the visual feedback, and bring his signature energy to it was nothing short of surreal.
There’s something beautifully poetic about it. The same song that defined a generation of gamers and aspiring guitarists through a plastic controller has now come full circle: Herman Li himself playing on a real, interactive LED guitar that lights up the notes in real time. If that isn’t a perfect closing of the loop, we don’t know what is. From Guitar Hero dreams to actually jamming with one of the gods of the genre on Litejam — life has a wonderful sense of humor and timing.
What struck us most during our conversation at NAMM was Herman’s genuine curiosity and enthusiasm. Even after years at the top of the metal scene, he approached Litejam with the open mind of someone who truly loves the instrument and everything that can make playing more fun and accessible. Seeing a player of his caliber immediately grasp how the visual lighting, simplified learning paths, and interactive elements could help players of all levels — from complete beginners to seasoned shredders — was incredibly validating.
Moments like this fuel everything we do at Litejam. We’re not just building a product; we’re creating tools that can support the next wave of guitarists while giving established artists new ways to connect with their craft and their audience. Nothing makes us happier than seeing artists we’ve admired for years pick up a Litejam and make it their own.
We’re incredibly proud and grateful to have shared that conversation with Herman and to see him bring Litejam into his world. It’s a reminder of why we started this journey in the first place: to make learning guitar more engaging, more visual, and more joyful — no matter your age, skill level, or how many blazing solos you’ve already unleashed on the world.
To everyone in the Litejam community — thank you for continuing to grow this movement with us. We can’t wait to see more of the artists who inspired us (and so many others) holding a Litejam, jamming on it, and helping close even more beautiful circles in the guitar world.
